First, we're happy to announce that the team has identified and fixed the issue with the YouTube conduit; you can now find and add videos from YouTube to your library and posts. As always, thanks for your patience!
The other news we have today is about a new addition to the Six Apart family: TypePad Micro, a new free level of TypePad that is streamlined for microblogging. We see a new form of blogging emerging that lives between the quick status updates of Twitter and Facebook and the long-form posts of "classic" blogging; TypePad Micro is designed to meet that need. You can read more about TypePad Micro in Chris Alden's post on the Everything TypePad blog.
A lot of the new capabilities we've added to TypePad this year were actually inspired by some of the best things about Vox: favoriting, member profiles, a dashboard to follow other bloggers, and easy ways to post content from other social media sites. But the things that make Vox different from TypePad are still there: Vox has always been -- and still is -- the best place for "friends and family" blogging, where you're in control over who sees what. TypePad, on the other hand, is built for the blogger who wants, no, craves, attention.
Do you have a passion or interest you want to share with people beyond your Vox neighborhood? If so, we'd love it if you tried out TypePad Micro. Maybe you've always wanted to start that obsessive blog that's just about waffle restaurants. Or want a place to share videos of your favorite band (Jonas Brothers, anyone? Anyone? ...). TypePad Micro's great for those topic-specific blogs. Take it for a spin and let us know what you think.
On the Vox front, our designers are working on some cool new themes (coming soon!). We'd also love to hear your thoughts about where we should take Vox in the coming year. What are the key things you'd like to see for Vox? If you've had a chance to use TypePad this year, what are the features there that we should bring over to Vox? And, if you're thinking big thoughts, how could we connect the Vox and TypePad communities in order to bring together bloggers and their shared passions? Your feedback is really important to us, so please leave a comment here, or shoot me a message.
And again, thanks for your patience as we found and fixed the YouTube bug!

One of my favorite things about working at Six Apart is that it's a company founded by bloggers, for bloggers. As a result, not only do we want to provide bloggers with the best tools (like Vox, TypePad and Movable Type), we're also committed to helping bloggers find a broader audience, and helping readers find the blogs that matter to them. And with over 175,000 new blogs created every single day, this is no easy feat.
Luckily, with the launch of Blogs.com, Six Apart is making it easy for you to find the best blogs on the web. Hand-picked by a team of passionate editors, and organized by the topics that interest you, Blogs.com will help you find blogs on a variety of topics from Life, to Entertainment, to seasonal topics like Student Life. You can also catch up on the latest buzz on the web by reading featured editorials or checking out the top ten lists.
Wondering how you can submit your blog to the Blogs.com editors for consideration? It's easy -- Just fill out this quick form. In the meantime, check out Blogs.com and let us know what you think in the comments.

Six Apart, Vox's parent company, has been celebrating a number of birthdays and anniversaries recently. TypePad turned four years old on Saturday, October 6th, Movable Type celebrated its six year anniversary two days after that, and the first anniversary of Vox's official launch is coming up next week!
Now there's an even more exciting birthday that we’re delighted to announce. Whenever Six Apart launches a new product, we often hear it described as “Ben and Mena’s baby”, referring to Six Apart's cofounders Ben and Mena Trott, but this time the phrase is actually true. Created, designed, developed and launched entirely by Ben and Mena is a new arrival: Penelope Frances Trott, born early in the morning on October 10th. Please join in our squees and coos by leaving a comment on Mena's birth announcement.
Baby, Mom, and Dad are all doing fine, though they’re a little too tired to do much blogging themselves, and even their dog Maddy is willing to make room in the family photo.
Congratulations, Trott family!

We just got the news that Vox is a Webware 100 Winner in the Publishing category – thanks to your
votes! Our sister service TypePad was also among the ten products honored, so we're pretty proud over here at Six Apart today.
So big thanks to all of you who voted for Vox!
In our last release, we launched the ability to do full
cross-posting to TypePad and/or LiveJournal. We've had cross-posting
functionality for a while now, but prior to this release we'd only send
an excerpt of the post to TP or LJ. The excerpts only include the first few lines of the post and all the images
and formatting are stripped out. For some people,
that's the exact behavior they want in their cross-posting
functionality. Some of us, on the other hand, wanted the option to completely
replicate our Vox posts to the other site, and that's where the full
cross-posting comes in.
If you enable full cross-posting, your entire post
will be cross-posted to your other blog, with all of the formatting,
pictures and assets intact. The media assets are clickable and linked
back to their originals on Vox, and everything should pretty much look
like it does on your Vox blog.
To enable this feature, you need to reconfigure your other blog - you can't just change the setting. Go to Account, and then click on Outside Services. If you already have another blog configured, then you should see a link under "Your other blog" to reconfigure. Put in your other blog's credentials, authorize, and then check the "Yes, send full post to this blog" box. Save, and you're done. From now on, when you choose to cross-post your Vox entries to your other blog, it will be the full versions instead of excerpts. If you ever decide to go back to excerpts, then just follow this procedure again and don't check the box.
Whichever option you choose will apply to all your posts, so you'll either always cross-post just an excerpt, or always cross-post the full post. Read "Cross-posting from Vox" for more tips and information.-- Steve
CES, the Consumer Electronics Show, is a madhouse: Imagine over 150,000 wifi-deprived gadget geeks crammed into Las Vegas, aware that what happens there stays there, and they're missing Macworld to be at the show. The headliners? Bill Gates, heads of companies like Nokia and Palm, and even some cast members from Lost.
But with over 2,700 exhibitors, we were really proud that Six Apart got a ton of attention.
We already told you about the Nokia partnership, and Six Apart and Vox were also mentioned in this USA Today article and in the San Francisco Chronicle. Mena got a chance to take part in a discussion (article in Japanese) and presentation about blogging with Sanyo Chairperson Tomoyo Nonaka. There was love for TypePad too, with Palm using it as their blogging platform for their CES 2007 Micro Blog.

I'd like to announce the results of the Foxkeh Vox Banner Contest. We had contributors from both sides of the Pacific and looking through the results and trying to find a winner was a lot of fun. However we did find two winners and here they are.
First though, I'd like to thank everyone who participated in the contest, either via gorgeous entries our with comments. Everyone who created a banner has received additional invites already.
Here are the two winners:
飴 (ame) 's Vox-banner-drop
and
We'll be contacting the two finalist directly, (probably via the Vox messaging system) to find out where to send them the Vox and Mozilla Japan goodies.

We know that many Voxers also have a TypePad blog, and there's an easy way to connect the two.
There's now a widget you can use to point your TypePad readers to your Vox blog. To get your own, head to the TypePad widgets page and click on the Vox Bling link.
To customize your bling just pick a color, pick a slogan, and enter your Vox URL and in no time at all you'll have great looking Vox bling on your TypePad blog!
