Vox Tip: Getting an Email Notification on Replies To Your Comments

It's such a fun thing, having people react to your posts and rejoice with your good news. We all have felt the excitement of getting a comment because it’s a great way to know that someone has stopped by and had something to share with us. There are opportunities to give and receive comments throughout Vox, on posts and media items such as photos, videos, books and DVDs.

One option that makes commenting even easier to keep track of is our email notifications, which let you know when someone has left a comment for you. From the notification email, you can easily click through the links to read more, see more about the commenter, and reply back to that comment. Not too long ago, we added in the option to get notification emails when someone replies to a comment you made. (This was highly requested by the Vox community, so we were really excited to add this option.) So how does it work? If you want to leave a comment for the person who wrote the post, just click on the "post a comment" link. If you want to comment on someone's comment, click the Reply link next to their comment. This will make a check box show up that says "In reply to..." Once you click "save", it will visually indicate that it's a reply, and send a notification to the person you replied to. Be sure you are signed up to get all of your comment notifications by going to Account > Notifications. There are two options for comment notifications:

Email_notifications

New comments (comments left on posts or assets you've uploaded)
Replies to my comments (replies that someone makes to one of your comments)

We'd suggest leaving these settings turned on so that you always know when a comment comes in! Read more about the options in the Account area.

The cool thing about the ability to reply directly to someone's comment is that it lets conversations be more dynamic. It opens up new ways to talk about the topic at hand, and you may find new people who have common interests because of participating in a comment thread together.

Comment Reply Notifications Are Here!
All of us on Team Vox are really excited about this, so we know you will be too. Now when someone replies directly to one of your comments, we'll send you an email notification. No more worries that you'll miss what someone wrote to you (or your chance to respond directly). We look forward to how this change will help keep your conversations flowing and help you connect with like-minded Voxers.

Changes in Blog Navigation
Inconsistencies in navigating around Vox can be confusing, and up until now viewing things like photos or audio worked differently in groups than it does on your blog. So we've just made them more consistent by consolidating all the blog navigation links into one strip. As a plus, the new blog navigation takes up less space and is located underneath your blog header, making your own design more prominent on the page.

This additional space in your design might inspire you to create a new custom theme. If you'd like to upload a new custom theme or need to tweak your existing one, read the Help article Personalizing your blog's design. And if you want to tweak your blog title or tag line, just click over to the Design area.

We've been listening to what you've told us recently and here are a few ways we've incorporated your feedback in this release:

Set your privacy level on the Recent Updates!: You can choose who to share your activity with (anyone, no one, neighborhood, friends & family, friends or family) by going to Account > Privacy & Defaults.
Updates to the neighbors module: We've removed the tagline from the Neighbors module on your blog's sidebar. You'll be able to see everyone's taglines when you click through to view the neighbors page.
Tags are back!: We've returned tags to be viewable on your blog posts. They'll display below each post or asset near the link to comments.

Explorefood

Improvements To Explore
Have you ever searched on a tag like "food" and wanted to see posts, photos and videos about it all at the same time? We just improved the Explore experience so that it shows you relevant photos, posts, audio, video and books for anything you search on. Of course, if you want to see search results on just one type of asset (videos tagged "food" for instance) just click on "video" above the search box to filter the results.

New Release, New Themes!
Big news for Groups: we've just made all blog themes available as group themes as well! Pick a new theme in the Design area.

We've also added some brand new themes.

And to get you excited about the upcoming VH1Eyecandy conduit, they've released some of their own themes including Heels, Pink, Trio, Hearts, and Shorts. Look for them under the "New" tab in Design.

Vox Tip: Choosing Comment Moderation

Voxers value their privacy. Even if you blog about something publically, you want to feel some element of control over the feedback you get. Vox allows you to easily set the privacy on who can read your posts and view your media, but what about comments?

You'll be happy to know that Vox also lets you preview comments before they show up on your blog. This comment moderation feature can be useful in a variety of situations. Maybe you're talking about some sensitive issues that you want to keep as public posts for anyone to read, but you'd prefer to have some control over the comments added to those posts. Or maybe you've created a blog with a very specific focus where you want to make sure that the comments address that topic rather than straying off into other areas of discussion. Whatever your reasons, using the comment moderation process will give you the chance to approve comments before they're added to your blog for others to see.

To use comment moderation with your blog, click the Account link in the Control Strip and then click the Privacy & Notifications link. Under the heading Comment Approval, you'll find a dropdown menu that allows you to choose which groups of people are automatically allowed to leave a comment on your blog. Your options range from "all Vox members", which means that all comments will show up without requiring your approval, to "nobody", which means that every comment left on your blog will require your approval before they're visible to your other readers.

Account_privacy_moderation

The comment moderation feature also works when you're sharing content with one of your Vox Groups. For example, you might decide to automatically approve comments from your Neighborhood while holding comments from anyone outside your Neighborhood for your approval. Then you may choose to share one of your items with a public group. If someone who isn't in your Neighborhood views your content in the group and leaves a comment on it there, that comment will not show up in the group or on your blog unless/until you approve it.

If you choose to receive email notifications whenever someone leaves a comment, you'll still get those notifications for comments that aren't automatically approved. That may help you keep track of the comments waiting for approval. You can also see all the comments left on your blog by going to the Organize tab. When you're ready to approve or delete a comment, you can do that either from Organize or directly from the item on your blog where that comment was left.
