Color. Win Some Invites.
Years ago I used to run coloring contests on my personal weblog, dollarshort.org. I would upload a graphic for people to color in using their preferred paint program and then pick a winner or two and send them some sort of prize. Here's an example of the results of one contest I held.
A couple weeks ago Flickr held their own coloring contest and I was immediately whisked back into 2001 when coloring reigned supreme over at my blog.
What's that have to do with Vox, you may ask? Well, we mentioned that we were going to have some sort of contest to give out invites and we've decided to make it a coloring contest!
Here's your coloring challenge
- Download this graphic, color it in, decorate it -- make it look good and be creative.
- Upload the image and tag your entry "vox coloring contest" and we'll find your entries. We'll be judging on Friday, August 4th so get those entries in!
- Reap the spoils of victory!
We'll pick three winners who'll each get 20 Vox invites deposited into their accounts. Additionally, we'll send them a little pack of Vox schwag in the postal mail.
Everyone who enters (and correctly tags their entry) will get 2 invites as well. So everyone wins.

I love this idea, and I'll probably enter, but only because I love coloring. I doubt I'd actually win. :D

[this is not good] So, to enter this, I would have to have and know how to use graphic design software of some kind, or I would have to have a working printer and scanner. I hope this isn't the only way to get invitations any time soon.

I don't have any artistic skills or know how to really use Photoshop, but I can save a picture and open it up in Paint! Thanks for the prompt to get off my butt and figure this stuff out. :)

Are these supposed to be coloured on paper, or just in paint type applications?

what time could entries be submitted until?
I made three, and tagged them correctly... but they aren't showing up with the rest of the entries. Does it take the site a while to recognize new entries?
I wish there was a more specific deadline presented.

Posted a picture, correctly labeled. Still not on pic site. How sure are you that you are not over looking all the enteries. There are so many more talented than mine, but it would be nice to see them ALL.

I think next time you hold a coloring contest, you should be a little more specific with the rules. For example, when you say "Coloring" do you mean coloring by hand, then scanning it, and submitting it? And was it ok to use a graphics editing program like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. I had whipped up a couple but saw a lot of people coloring them by hand so I backed out myself for fear of being disqualified.
And there was no concrete deadline posted either. :-(
i wouldn't sweat it too much, it's just coloring! i'm sure we'll have plenty of other chances to show our creativity. or, in my case, how bad i am at trying to photoshop something. :)
even if you are after the deadline tonight, i would still love to check out everyone's artwork.

I assumed it was to use a paint program, since the examples all looked digitally colored, so I used photoshop to do mine. Then I got bored and colored one by hand as well just for fun. I didn't think it really mattered.
I don't care if I did miss the deadline (although they could have given us over the weekend - I mean this is the site for older 30-somethings who supposedly have jobs nad lives, right?), I'm still gonna color it and post it in my blog this weekend. :P
Can you use resources from other sites?
