Vox Tip: Easily add items from inside Windows

Did you know that Vox has a Windows XP uploader that allows you to easily add items to your blog?

Our knowledge base has an illustrated guide to get you started on the process: Using the Windows XP uploader. Just download and install the program. Then when you're browsing files through your "My Computer" screen, you'll see an option to "Publish selected items to the web" which will launch a wizard. When the wizard asks, "Where do you want to publish these files?" just select Vox. You'll be prompted for your username and password, and then you'll get a screen with options for privacy levels and collections. You'll also have the option to adjust the size of images all at once.

What types of things can you add? Any photos, audio files, or videos that are on your hard drive cab be added right into Vox using the Windows XP uploader. Did you take a vacation this year? You might have a folder on your computer with photos of your daughter jumping into the pool, audio files featuring your son singing "The Wheels on the Bus" in the backseat, and videos of your whole family going on a roller coaster. Get into that folder and bring them all into Vox at one time! You can even create a collection at the same time to keep everything organized and show it off all together.

We know this won't work for those of you who don't use Windows, but our options for uploading are still easy and we are always looking for ways to improve our tools. Feel free to tell us what you are looking us to enhance in Feedback.

This sounds fairly cool but where exactly is the link to get the uploader? The "Using the Windows XP uploader" link says it's in the accounts window but I'm just not seeing it.

I like how every site tries to implement Flickr strategies.

hey Kristine and Help team, I actually sent you an email via Feedback with what may be a related question. I'd like to have my del.icio.us link roll added to a sidebar in my blog. there is a page in del.icio.us on how to do it but it doesnt' work here in Vox, even though it can be done on a TypePad blog. what say you? thanks!

I'm a newbie. I don't have my photos posted anywhere on the web but hear that I can take photos from the web and put them into a post/s without them also appearing in MY Photos on my blog. Is this true? Is using the Vox uploader the same deal?

don't worry, we're friends with the flickr team and i'd helped them with their photo uploader when they first did theirs -- so though we might see it as implementing TypePad strategies, it's probably best to just describe it as sharing good ideas with your neighborhood. :)

Yes it's true. Highlight the photo you want to "steal" from the web. Copy the photo via Cntrl-C or Edit | Copy from the menu bar. Open up your Vox Composer window. Paste the photo via Cntrl-V or Edit | Paste from the menu bar.

Is using the Vox uploader the same deal?

No. Vox Uploader puts them in their appropriate bin, so JPEGs appear in Photos, MP3s appear in Audio.

(vox, my iMac, and her little sister MacBook have gotten to be great friends.)

I'm not minding it, really. I think it's convenient. I'm just seeing it used everywhere -- Xanga, included, and it kind of seemed like a desperation act to me. Trying to implement MySpace and Flickr together. Sad things.

I third this comment! I run an OSX platform, too. I'd love it if vox would create an uploader for us. It seems like mac users don't get as much play as windows for most programs.

Question: since flickr and yahoo have merged/joined (not sure on the technical term), is vox planning on implementing a way for us to access our yahoo pictures as we can for flickr, photobucket and such? The majority of my photos have been on yahoo and it would be really convenient.

I'm MacOS X user. Do you plan to make some kind of software for Vox for MacOS platform?

Semagic is a great free opensource blog client for LJ , its a shame it doesnt get updated to support VOX

This would be awesome, except I have my windows set to "Windows Classic", which means the "common tasks" pane isn't displayed, which means I can't choose this. If it could somehow be added to the right-click/send-to menu, that would be 100% shibby, though.

Need a Linux version I use Ubuntu Web sites need to realize there are users on the internet that use OS's other than WInblows.

Why can't we upload regular files, documents, etc? There are other things I'd like to share with my friends besides photos.

And what about links? I'd really like to be able to show links on my home page to other things I'm related to (my own web page, the organization I work for, my workout log, etc.)
