Vox Partners With Nokia
You might hear some buzz in the press today about a partnership between Vox and Nokia (read Six Apart's press release for full details). At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, it was announced that Vox is going to be available in Nokia Nseries devices, enabling easy sharing of videos, photos and blog posts. The Nokia N93i will be the first product to include the integrated service. Check out this fancy flash demo of what the service looks like.
Vox is now Nokia's global partner for blogging and video sharing. About the partnership, Mena said, "We've always believed that mobile phones will have a huge impact on blogging, and we're pleased that Nokia shares this vision." And as Anil said in his post on the Six Apart website about the partnership, "if your social network doesn't work when you're away from your computer, your social network doesn't work."
- If you have an Nseries or are planning to get one: The Vox client for Nokia phones is free. If you want to find out more check out the Vox - Nokia Nseries information page, which includes a video introduction to the new features, descriptions of the newly-announced Nokia Nseries phones, and a link to download a configuration file. Note that if you give or receive a new Nseries phone the app is pre-installed, meaning Vox is right in the box!
- If you don't have an Nseries, you can still go mobile: Currently, Voxers can share photos and video from almost any type of web-enabled phone, using Vox Mobile (a free application for your Windows Mobile, Nokia Series 60, or Palm OS smartphone) or the moblogging method via text or email. Check out this Vox Tip on Mobile Posting for more info.
Members of Team Vox are at CES right now, and Andrew was kind enough to post this video from his Nokia phone:
Whether or not you have an Nseries phone, this partnership is good news for current and future Voxers. We see this as a sign that moblogging and, well, Voxing is on its way to becoming a little more mainstream. And hopefully that means you'll have an easier time getting your friends and family into your Vox neighborhood to read your content and share their own.
