"The cheeriest place in the blogosphere"
Vox got some love in the latest issue of Time Out Chicago. In their "Time In" section, Margaret Lyons interviews Mena and reports on the positive nature of Vox:
Vox’s claim to fame is going to be that it’s the happiest, cheeriest place in the blogosphere. And Trott’s happy about it. “Being online can be fun. We want to capture that. This is supposed to be pleasurable. If you want to write posts that never get troll comments, that are just for your friends, that’s completely acceptable,” she says.

Yayyy for Happyland Vox! That's sweet.
Aww how cool is that? :)
I love this place!!
"Readers can leave comments, or they can just check a box that says “this is good.” Trott is quick to point out that there’s no “this is bad” box. “I didn’t want a thumbs-down. If someone doesn’t like what you wrote, don’t say anything!"
Exactly! Thank you, Mena :)
And this just reinforces why I decided to choose Vox over anything else! It really does make blogging FUN and not drama ridden.
And those screenshots are AWESOME.
Good to know why we are all oving this place so much. Would be cool if you could users could customise the [this is good] with some sort of little icon. Imagine the possibilities! :D
Very awesome! I live in Chi-Town!
Vox Rocks!
Vox = Love
Well played. :D
Awesome. I love Vox.
Group hug!
i was once a crafty emo teenager on LJ. good article. vox serves a different audience, i feel, and since i'm no longer a crafty emo teenager, i kind of like this newer environment.
Way cool only do not forsake the goths! :P Some of us are perky too, y'know! :)
You should have a contest about getting Vox mentioned in the local paper. For hundreds of invites!
:)
Heck yes, VOX is amazing!
Yup, old-skool blogger chiming in: Vox absolutely captures how I felt about blogging in 1999, 2000, 2001. Fun, safe and in the company of friends. Thanks, Six Apart!
Caroline said it. Been a blogger (in one form or another since 1996) and Vox recaptures the good vibes of bygone days.
Honestly? This is bad would be, y'know, useful. As would the ability to include links in comments (or even raw HTML in posts; the editor is teh suxx0rz).
Which is, of course, why LiveJournal will remain my primary blog and Vox will be an occasionally amusing toy for the forseeable future.
*shrug* I guess it's an oatmeal problem; I'd rather people tell me their opinions, up and down, good and bad, rather than pretend that we're all shiny, happy people.
Absolutely LOVE Vox. =)
I'd like to be able to customise my own blog though instead of just picking from a range of templates. That would be fantastic.
Just to correct my mis-statement above. You can put links like this one in raw HTML when you're commenting. You can't do that when you're composing a blog entry. The reason why is a mystery.
Must be your settings or something flickerdave; I had no trouble putting links in my posts.
That's a great article, though. 6A rocks!
This is just way too awesome. Vox appears to be growing pretty well eventhough it is still in "Preview" stages. I can't wait until it is finally open to everyone, other than those invited. Woot!
Scottitude, if you look at this post you'll see an example of what I mean when I say "cannot insert HTML links when composing."
If there's a way to do that, someone please tell me.
Hooray! I've already sent my feedback in on what I'd like. Overall, I love the templates and the ideas that I get blogging here. And I love being able to post videos from my cell phone right then and there without uploading, getting it into youtube, posting it to LJ, etc.
Gotcha, filkerdave. I tried to insert an HTML tag a few minutes ago and realized your (our) dilemma with a resounding "WTF?"
It's a little odd that such a basic option is missing until we remember the type of user Vox is targeting. Not so much Live Journal-ists but the non-traditional, entry-level blogger. No need to confuse the audience with things that will seem complicated to those with a casual or experimental interest.
Oh, and sorry I twisted your name before...
...danm dyxlesia ;)
Heh, I read (and write) fluent Tyop.
I don't think having an editor that doesn't allow you to enter raw HTML is bad, so long as that's not the only option. Really, I neither need nor want my tags scrubbed.
C'mon, Six Apart, give us a way to turn that off?
I'm glad to be part of this neighborhood.
:)
Just another vote: please please please add an *option* to compose the posts in raw HTML if you want to attract also more "people who are already comfortable with blogging" ! The editor is my main gripe with Vox. The default setting will remain the WYSWYG editor and the inexperienced users will not need to mess with it or even to know there is another option.
you can make the users pass a little html knowledge test before letting thm enable the raw-html composer ;)
Thanks for all your comments. We're certainly glad to see that the vibe of Vox is clicking with our members.
Also thanks for the feedback, we're looking at ways to make the composing experience easier and more understandable for both beginners and HTML composers alike.
