Reserve the U-Haul
Since we use the neighborhood metaphor on Vox, it probably only makes sense to extend the same metaphor to the activity that's been happening around Vox recently.
We've invited a number of people into Vox who had expressed interest on the Six Apart site to be notified when we were ready to start handing out more invitations. And now, as you may have already noticed, some folks are driving around the neighborhood and seeing what people have been blogging about, others are checking out open houses and figuring out where they want to put their figurative couch and others have already called the moving truck to say they are ready to move into Vox.
We welcome all those who have signed up to Vox recently. I'm certain that those who are already here will work to make you feel at home. If you're new here, be sure to check out earlier posts here on Team Vox and learn about some of the features that we've been adding to the service.
And, if you want to explore Vox, be sure to check out past Questions of the Day for some inspiration on what to post. Of course, don't feel limited to posting answers to the QotD -- Vox is all about writing what's important to you and those who you care about!
Welcome!

I think I ran somebody over.
Thanks for the welcome! This Vox thing is pretty neat; it's like Web 2.0 blogging on steroids. I'm really looking forward to experiencing all Vox has to offer!
I just wanted to say thank you for sending me my invite! I use LiveJournal mainly, but I just may convert to Vox =P I'll see if I can get my friends interested!
I am used to livejournal and that I have been invited to VOX I have to see what all of the fuss is about...so far it is great.
One metaphor I left out -- Vox doesn't have to be your only home. I've seen lots of people saying that their LJ or TypePad blog is for one type of blogging/journaling and Vox will be for another. That's great too.
Hey, I was just invited to vox last night and since then I've been checking out your new service. I must say, its pretty "DAMN GOOD". The blog-posting form is especially trendy and full with useful features. One more thing, are you guys working on making it more browser friendly? In Opera 9.0, the whole admin interface gets broke...it would be nice to see cross-browser compability in Vox
im new here tonight and i can say that this is gonna be hawt!! altho LJ crossposting would be awesome too xD
I am new as well... so far everything looks good!
I've been using Vox since last week and quite like the look and feel of things. I'm used to LiveJournal and Blogger...so there are certain features that I'm hoping Vox would implement prior to launch:
- Comment threading, which can lead to notification of replies made to your comments outside your blog
- Comments from outside of Vox
- Adding neighbourhood of people outside of Vox
- Link list that one could fill in by oneself
- Implementation of Nokia LifeBlog API for moblogging
That'd make Vox absolutely perfect and I'd be calling the moving truck at the snap of a finger! :-)
I received an invite today, and so far I'm absolutely loving vox...I just wish I had some invites, because there are already some friends of mine who want to try it out, too... :)
Been here a while now and I'm enjoying it.
Thank you for the experience
Woo! I got an invite today and while I have to say I have to be on here a little bit longer to say if I actually like what I see or not, I'm curious to know if we're going to be able to import another blog into Vox (like LJ) any time soon?
OK, I feel like I've really missed something somewhere--I've seen the atom feeds, but I can't seem to find the API for posting (in my case, via ecto). Ecto autodetects an atom API for posting, but ecto dies a horrible death whenever I try to use the atom API.
That aside, I am really enjoying using vox--even if its only been for about 12 hrs or so. The integration with flickr is great and there is a lot more polish to this service that I would have ever expected.
Bravo! I can't wait to see what comes next from this crew!
I got an invite today as well and I'm LOVING Vox. I adore all the features and the QOTD and whatnot. I think you guys are making a huge step for bloggers and I'm very thankful for it.
Well pull up a chair! Anybody who needs a neighbor, I'm right around the corner there. (Hover your mouse over my userpic, the little binary thing!)
"One metaphor I left out -- Vox doesn't have to be your only home. I've seen lots of people saying that their LJ or TypePad blog is for one type of blogging/journaling and Vox will be for another. That's great too."
I wish Vox can be integrated with LJ, like what you guys have done for Typepad. Consider it, please? ^_^
I actually got a couple of people to sign up. Go me! =)
I'm originally coming from LiveJournal as well... Thanks for the invite! :) We'll see how this thing kicks off and if I get any of my friends interested... Right now it's a little lonely!
Vox team, thanks for sending me the invite. It was pretty darn quick, too; I signed up for this a mere two months ago. Anyway, like some of the previous commenters, I'm fresh out of the LJ community. What you guys are doing here, though, seems to be right up my alley.
A few suggestions:
1.) More customization options for themes, or the option to create one's own (possibly by just giving us a textbox where we can dump in our own HTML/CSS, like what Blogger does)
2.) Support for the .OGG music file format
3.) The option to add LiveJournal user accounts into one's neighbors list (and maybe an option for vice versa, since both LJ and Vox are under Six Apart)
I'm really glad to have been invited. Thanks a lot for the invite :) Vox is really wonderful and powerful!
wow, seems like you guys were really generous with the invitations yesterday. :) I'm glad I was on the list.. I've been looking to leave the ol' lj behind and I think this is going to be the perfect place to start anew.
thanks for the invite. this is really neat. it has a very different feel from live journal. this seems like a much nicer myspace. i donot mean that as a diss, i dislike myspace. i think this is a much improved concept. i will actually use this, where as i alway feel dirty when i check myspace.
the interface is very intuitive and i like the ability to insert pictures and soundclips.
It looks amazing! I can't compose a blog though; I can't select the post body ;__;
i agree with the comment threading idea --like it already is on livejournal. ;)
So far, very nice! I'm eager to see what's in store for the months to come.
I'm from the wordpress community, and this is pretty good.
hey dudes, stay workin'!
Does anyone know how I can shut off getting email notifications of comments posted in my blog? Thanks for the help!
Thanks for the welcome! I've been a user of other SixApart products (MT & LJ) so I've been eager to check out Vox. I'm really impressed so far! Keep up the great work.
I am really enjoying Vox. I was about to give up on blogging completely until a friend sent me an invite. I'm enjoying blogging all over again. Thank you!!
I think a bunch of us LJers signed up for this at the beginning of the month when LJ made that post clarifying the separation of LJ and Vox, curiosity killed the cat and here we are.
It's going to take some getting used to but I can see myself blogging here, at least using it as someone mentioned above as a "different" blogging style from my LJ.
Hiya Team Vox,
Thanks for letting me peek inside before the paint is on the walls. :)
A couple things (posted here since I don't know where to post beta feedback (yes, I still believe in beta feedback)):
1. Instant messenger choices should include ICQ - lots of people (including me) still use ICQ.
2. It seems odd that the only tags that appear on my home page when I set up my account are those from the image I used from Flickr for my profile personal photo. Why not use the set of all Flickr tags from my Flickr account? And from (I assume these will be enabled) my del.icio.us account, etc.
*moving van pulls up* Thank you Vox for my shiny new home! I’ve been looking around and I love what I’ve seen thus far.
Downes:

There's the Feedback link. :D
*Self drive Van hired in the UK pulling up outside cozy second home*
Another LJ second-home owner here looking around and hoping to get to know people, and like Cindy above, here because of the Post about seperation between them :D
Thanks for the invite I found in my mailbox this evening. So far I totally LOVE how Vox is set up!
I must say I dig the neighborhood metaphor (and I dig any metaphor that can be overextended with such delightful results as "figurative couch"). I am finding social-networking sites using the "choose your friends" model increasingly creepy, like "Yay! Let us recreate the oppresive milieu of the eighth grade without having to leave the house!" I've been using Vox for a total of 90 minutes, but I am already compelled to leave the (literal and figurative) house and walk around peeking into back yards.
I'm a perm livejournal user and typically scorn other sites. Sure I have a myspace, a friendster, an orkut, a flickr, a youtube, a google video and about 40 other accounts but I rarely use any of them (except livejournal) and that's because a) I'm well established there and b) I'm a perm member so there is no cost for full functionality.
Vox is the first service I've come across that makes me think... hmm... [this is good]. Really.
Get the livejournal cross-posting working (I know it's on the schedule) and I'll likely never post anything outside of Vox again.
Good job to the whole team for this. The themes are great, the UI smooth, the servers fast and it all ties together nicely.
I like the layouts of this site better than livejournal. They're all so pretty and look professional.
I've been here for awhile and still loving it. Thank you for all the hard work you guys do, here and on the other 6A sites!
I'm one of the many recently invited, and I must say I'm enjoying it so far! The more blogging sites, the better!
Ah, I wish I had something to say that wasn't a complete reiteration of what everyone else said, but they've all beaten me to the punch, it seems.
I'm an LJer as well, and I originally drifted here to see what the fuss was all about. My verdict: if LJ is the sake, then VOX is certainly the ootoro! ;D Don't see anything to complain about. ♥
Anyway, superb work so far. If this is still in the beta stage, I can't wait to see what the finished cake'll be like, icing and all.
I've been on LJ for over 5 years (high school, college, post college) and it's nice to branch out into something a bit different. I'll still keep my LJ...it's more of a journal...but this is, well, Vox. It's funny because I've sort of grown up with LJ. It's very much a part of me, and well, I feel this has the potential too, especially since I'm "all grown up." Can't wait for the next batch of features to come out.
Thanks all for your comments! The whole team has really loved to see all the new Voxers and have especially liked seeing the comments on this post. We're excited that you're excited and will soon be depositing more invites in your accounts soon!
wow, I thought that "soon" would mean "within the next day or so", but I already have 2 invites available. thanks, mena/vox. :)
This is by far the best blogging system I've worked with. Thanks!
Great work everyone, I'm looking forward to when you can open up the doors to everyone!
thank you so much for inviting me and welcoming me, as well as all the newcomers to this site. i've been exploring for the past hour or so and can honestly say this is spectacular. i love the whole audio upload idea and the collection thing. i can't wait to use that! if i WERE to make suggestions, it'd be support of Flukiest.com but i can live without that. it's just some perk i'd like since i don't have a flickr.
THANKS AGAIN.
Thank you very much for the invite! Love the organize your stuff [books + photos ] and the collection thing. Nice layouts. Thanks.
so happy to be aboard (or moved in--so as not to mix metaphors)...the time between when i learned about vox and when i got to be a part of it was gruelling, but i'm here now, and feeling better.
Sweet timing! I was looking to slip a little note under your front door.
A busy morning, lots on the go. (Life's a mandala, yes?)
Just now I passed bentrem.vox.ca to the host of CBC Radio's ''Sounds Like Canada'', rather than copying them the text of my post.
I ended up at the host's site: jian.ca ... Jian Ghomeshi's a pretty classy guy.
Flipping back to bentrem.vox.ca ... know what? Vox is a pretty classy system.
thanks ... really
Ummm you like rasberry tea? I've got a pot on.
another lj user coming over to try it out and so far not too bad.
i'm a bit confused over neighborhoods and communities. so far the help button has been sparse on how one creates something like an lj community.
keep up the good work.
thanks for the invite, guys! :) I like Vox because it's an online space that I don't feel like I have to keep private like my LJ- I think I'll use this to keep my parents, family, and RL people in the loop about things.
wonderful work, glad to be on board to say! Already handed out my invites and some friends are asking for more. This is gonna be big, I know it! Keep up the wonderful work!
Thanks for the invite Vox Team! Had a blast just setting up my book and music collections.
Love it so far! I do have a few suggestions though.
1. Ability to choose different fonts for entries.
2. I'd like to add NON-Vox blog links to the sidebar as part of my daily reads. An absolute must!
3. Comments avail for NON Voxers.
4. Maybe an option to reorder the sidebar section.
Is it really true that you cannot host your images and audio elsewhere besides Vox or the other 3 hosting options? I would like to be able to show images from my own web host, preferably using plain HTML. This setup here where I have to use a toolbar to upload images onto your server feels clumsy compared to what I am used to on livejournal.
Maybe I am just missing something and there is already a way to use html tags. If not, I hope it becomes possible to do so in the future...
I really like the look and feel of the Vox community. It's clean, organized, and uncomplicated. It is what it is; you don't have to fuss with it a terrible lot, and it's not a design competition. It's simply a blogging tool, and a community. I really applaud Six Apart's efforts here. It feels good to be here.
Another LJ user here, and I have to say, I have another blog! :D Thank you guys for the new blog! *huggles*
i love it i love it i love it. thanks vox. :) oh yeah, and like most people here i'm an lj user. i've been blogging on lj for five years now I think. If all my friends there get a vox account, I may just be saying a final farewell to LJ. But vox looks like a pretty good looking future if i may say so... :)
I'm sorry for the belated "thank you."
But better late than never.
Thanks for inviting the one who isn't in the "in circle," Team Vox. The invite waiting in my inbox was a very pleasant surprise. Rock on.
Yay. Thank you! I got the invite on the 17th and just now got around to signing up. I like Vox. I like it a lot.
