Vox Banner Contest Results Part II
The time has come to introduce the 50 Vox Banner Contest entries that will be made into Vox themes!
First of all, thanks to all of you who entered. It was extremely difficult to choose 50 (and impossible to choose just five). The ones we picked, we feel, could have the broadest appeal to our Vox users and would be the easiest to integrate into Vox themes. File size entered into the equation so we had to pick banners that we feel could get reduced to a size that would load quickly. Additionally, there were a number of themes that came so close to being picked but because of one or two elements being slightly off, we couldn't choose them.
That said, we will be contacting a number of people who weren't picked and asking if we could make some modifications/variations to their banners and consider them for future releases too.
We picked a mix of photographic, vector-based and even hand-drawn banner. Illustrations, by far, were our largest form of submissions so you'll see more of those.
Again, we've realized how creative our Vox users can be! This has made it very clear to us that we will want to add functionality to Vox that will give Voxers the ability to customize and share their work more easily (and not just through contests)!
Without further ado, here are the 50 Vox banners that will be coming to your friendly neighborhood blogging service in upcoming releases.
And if you're one of the people whose entry was picked, we'll be contacting you about the next steps.

!!!Huge congrats to everyone!!!
These are all great!
As for the promise of additional functionality in expressing our creativity: I just can't wait. Thanks for this, Team Vox.
It was fun.
i love them! congrats to all of you. i can't wait to use a new banner!
Congratulations to the winners!
Anyway, w00t! Congrats to the other winners!
I agree. I was under the impression that 50 USERS were going to have thier banners selected.
I love the banners that were selected tho. Congrats!
Great picks, although I can't believe you didn't choose this http://lala.vox.com/library/photo/6a00c2251dd48c8fdb00c2252408168fdb.html and this http://rae-eats.vox.com/library/photo/6a00c225227c89604a00c22523506c8fdb.html. Those are so cute and well done!
Some of these are very unimpressive compared to the entirety of the bannars submitted. And none of them really WOW'd me at all.
And I agree that it isn't fair that more than one (and in some cases more than 2) were chosen from the same people.

I think that obviously not everyone will like every banner.. some here I'm not that fond of and others I really liked haven't been picked (hmpf).
I think it would be unfair if out of 5 winners, more than one banner was made by the same person. But these are FIFTY which is a whole bunch. I can see the point that 2 banners that are absolutely identical except for the color should not be picked twice, but some people put a lot of effort into 2 or more banners (I know I did), so I think it's perfectly fair that more than 1 can get picked.
When people who submitted a lot of good banners can only get picked once, you'd 'have' to pick more banners that might not be as good as the others, you know?
Would you mind giving some examples of banner you liked? I'm just curious :)

I mean, they picked a Koala, a Toucan, an owl etc etc so why not a Panda?
I did find the bottom 5 winners pleasing. Especially the pen and ink one because it is a blog, witty and interesting.
And I guess we all have different tastes.. I personally like the drawings/illustrations better than the photo banners, I find it takes more effort to make them and it's also the 'Vox style' (but I know many people would like to see more photo & realistic banners).
But maybe I'm just biased because I put so much work in my koala and the other two banners.
It was a contest that was to have 5 winners. The 5 were chosen. The rest are bonuses to all of us. They could have ignored the plea from the majority of us begging for more winners and saved themselves a bunch of work, but they didn't. There is nothing to say that these banners won't eventually be chosen for something, but they weren't chosen today. It's nothing personal. It's their site and they are going to take it where they want to go. If you don't want the fear of failure, then you don't enter the contest.
Every single person that entered put time and effort into the entries. I know that I looked into all of the entries that were visible and searchable and I didn't find a single one that I thought "Oh gosh no I wouldn't pick that one." There were some that weren't my style or that I didn't think would mesh with what I thought the Vox atmosphere was, but the idea that we need to have drama over it is silly. We can either be gracious and be happy and have more fun little contests like this or we can be crabby and unsportsmanlike and make this site an unhappy place to be where the people that run it hate the users and don't want to do anything for us like some other unnamed sites...
I love it here. Quit harshing the mellow and get on board. You are all way more talented than me so suck it up and bask in the "I'm better than Jill" and be happy.
There was a variety of in this contest, and I am so glad to see so many users come together to showcase their creative sides. We should enjoy even having opportunities such as these, rather than criticize them after the fact.
That's what I'm saying. I mean, they certainly didn't word it clearly. To quote:
But there's good news. Remember when we said we'd pick our favorite five and make themes out of theme? Well, after almost 600 entries, we've realized that there's no way we can just pick five. Right now, as of 5:00 pm PST we're down to the top 50 that we want to pick as winners and build out as themes.
This makes it appear that they were going to pick 50 individuals, not 50 designs. So it's understandable why some of us were confused. Not trying to say anything negative or anything when I say that, either. It was just confusing.
We're glad to see all the love for the entries that were picked!
As far as the confusion to whether we were going to pick 50 additional Voxers or 50 additional banners, we're sorry and will be clearer in the future.
We're really looking forward in seeing the banners built out and incorporated into Vox.
Thanks to everyone who participated. As promised, those who entered and were picked will receive additional invites. Since there were so many entrants, this may take a bit of time, but please be patient.
Thanks again!
