New Release: Oi!

I agree. I just chose to be a Vox Beta tester for the "Control Strip" and I must say I don't like it at all. I liked the Vox was before. One reason I switched from using Livejournal was because I couldn't stand the control strip design. Disappointed that it's going to be implemented here.
I'm not a huge fan of the control-strip either, but I love my Vox.
I can deal with it.
I hope Team Vox is trying to make Vox play better with Safari.
We’re working on it. Though it partially requires Apple to make Safari play better with Vox. :)

I personally love the control strip. Makes the design look cleaner, and fresher. Also makes the avatar stand out.

now i want to log out every day to see what new things are on the homepage!
[this is not so good] i'm agreeing with the comments above. i'm not really a fan of the new control strip. i use VoxWatch as my main "keep up with the neighborhood" section, and now the link is buried. perhaps put that one outside one of the drop down menus? anyone else use that navigation predominantly?

also, something i've noticed since downloading Firefox 2.0 . . . the key commands for "bold" and "italic" aren't working anymore. i LOVED the key commands in Firefox 1.5. can we bring back vox's override for program key commands?

I just signed on as a beta tester and at first glance like the new control strip.

I've also noticed (not on the control strip) a 'share this' option beside comments. I really like that. I've often wanted someone to see a post from out of their neighborhood and been frustrated trying to make it happen. Good feature!

I looked into this and there doesn’t seem to be a way to override the command-key equivalents in Firefox 2.0. :(

Good job on your hard work, Team Vox.
oh, sadness! thanks for trying though . . . i'll just have to try and ween myself off. at least the bookmark toggling works to open *and* close.
not a fan of the control strip either. it's one thing i disliked about livejournal. it can be completely frustrating.

still hoping + praying you'll add email notifications for comments replied to in neighbor's blogs. if i leave a comment in someone's vox, i never know if or when they've responded. i can't believe this feature hasn't been given top priority or viewed as important for communication.
Very cool! Thanks for your hard work! =)
The Control Strip effectively places everything within easy grasp, but I'm not really a fan of roll down menus. They frustrate me, as they probably do to many others, but others might prefer it. I suggest you leave it as an option, but not make it mandatory for everyone.
[this is good]
I'm ok with the new control strip. The old way was fine with me, but I don't mind the new one. It would be nice if it could be optional though. Everything else is great though. Keep up the good work! :D

I like the new control strip well enough. I think it's kind of ugly, but the quick links to important pages is a definitely improvement--for me, at least. I haven't noticed anything I dislike about it yet (aside from aesthetics), but I honestly haven't spent much time with it. I guess I'll get back to you.

good job with the updates, anyway, and thanks for actually considering our input.

i like the new logged out page. very eye-catching. i also like the naviagion strip. i dont mind it on LJ and it works well here. it seems like other sites are going this route too. ESPN just redesigned their page last week and it implements this too, although i think its a bit harder to use since there are so many links in each drop-down menu.

also, i couldnt leave this comment on firefox 2.0 for whatever reason. i dont know what's wrong. it works fine on IE, but not FF. i could leave comments yesterday but not on this latest post. hmm.

Looks awesome, and *love* the new nav strip. Makes the stuff I want easier to get to. Thanks!
[this is good]
I must say I do like the new control strip. I personally didn't use VoxWatch much - I prefer to read friends/family posts from the Neighbourhood page :) The roll down menus... well I haven't decided how I feel about those yet but a roll over on the menu items would be helpful when using them? (and the Neighbourhood one don't line up properly in Safari)
what's with the intergalactic iframe that's in most of the pages? i thnk it's this "flyout" thing that doesn't play nice with safari.
Victor - Are you running AdBlock inside of Firefox by chance? We saw the same thing happen to someone in the office yesterday and that was the problem.

I agree. It's not near as pretty, but it makes up for it in functionality. I do think the implementation here is more attractive than Livejournal's top bar, but it's a long way from the current elegance. I could go either way.

Do you have the AdBlock extension installed? We’ve noticed some Vox JavaScript is being blocked by the AdBlock extension, breaking site functionality. You can whitelist all of vox.com or disable AdBlock to fix the issue.
I too, can no longer post with Firefox2, no matter what theme/skin I pick, I can edit title, but can't get the body section to accept input at all, nor can I submit after editing title and tags, nor do any of the 'control buttons, bold, underline, etc..' work at all. Adblock-plus 0.7.4.2, appears to be the cause. Which is very odd since it's not been updated in ages, and the posting problem wasn't here on the 26th, but seems to have started on the 27th.

Workaround for Firefox 2 users + adblock 0.7.4.2 you can disable it on a per-site basis and that will allow you to compose. Someone should make this information a F.A.Q item (since it seems new)
[this is good]
I actually like the new control strip a lot! :)
[this is good]
I like the control strip idea! I've gotten used to the Navigation Bar on LiveJournal; it's convenient. :)

hi guys:

i just updated firefox, and now i cannot write in boxes anywhere on vox, albeit to compose or to leave a comment.

what is up with that?

thanks,

a girl unhappily in IE for noe

Check/disable your adblock.

I've submitted a bug report, they know there's an issue somewhere.

Hope this helps.
Why are you doing this? Have you gotten lots of complaints about the current navigation system used in the Vox interface? One of the reasons why I switched to Vox was that I liked its simple, yet elegant menu and control structure system. A number of people are saying that the new control strip looks like the one used in Live Journal, and I think it looks similar to the system used in WordPress. My dislike of WordPress motivated me to look for a better way to blog, which I found in Vox. If users wanted a blogging system like LiveJournal’s or WordPress’, they’d be using Live Journal or WordPress; not Vox. I think people like using Vox because it’s Vox, which is different from the other systems that they don’t like. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
Ahhh...I was wondering why I couldn't post or pick a new theme...disabling adblock worked.
Hope this is fixed soon...

Yes! Control strip! That is the one thing that I felt was missing here at vox.
We pushed a patch release this evening that should cure any Firefox/Adblock related problems. Let us know via Feedback if you’re still having any issues!
I had to whitelist the site just now in order to type this. So, no, the patch release didn't cut it.

Thanks, Vox. *cough*
Update: Rather than using "Whitelist this entire site" for each user's Vox site, I added "@@vox.com" to my Adblock filter set. That made everything work.

Yay, or something.
Please add ways to add links to other blogs on our vox page.. and anonymous commenting.
[this is good]
I can't decide if I like the control strip or not... Still, I'll keep using it :)
[this is good]
That works very well, I didn't think of @@, I was using 'disable on this page' and refreshing.

Hopefully there'll be a concrete fix soon.
I can confirm, with the @@vox.com whitelist entry removed, and the forced filterset.G update, everything seems to be working as expected for me. Copy/pasted email from Brandy @ vox below:

Thanks for the information you provided. We did want to let you know that
Filterset.G has been updated. You mentioned that you had the bug even without
that filterset installed, but the maintainer of Filterset.G has let us know that
he can use this updated version without the problems on Vox. To update, go to
Tools > Adblock > Filterset.G Updater > Settings > Force Update Now. Can you let us know if that makes any difference for you?
Wasn't working till I did the forced update.
Thanks!

The Vox team needs to get busy with an embedded calendar function. The easiest way would be to permit at least a crippled embed of Google Calendar or an equivalent. At least, allow a URL linking to it from inside Vox.

Too much ink written about twiddling content and not enough reach for useful functionality.

[this is good]
all these new themes and stuff are brilliant, but can we get some way of using external clients to post to Vox? Like Semagic, Ecto, Windows Writer etc? I can post to Vox from my Nokia, so I assume there IS a way of doing it... or am I missing a FAQ somewhere?
anonymous commenting would be a fantastic improvement.
Anonymous commenting leads to loads of unnecessary drama. This isn't LiveJournal, after all.
I agree with Bex about anonymous commenting. If you don't want the whole world to see your comment, you can send the other Vox blog owner a private message. If you don't even want the other blog owner to know that it's you who wrote something in a private message, then there's probably either something bad about the content of your message, or bad with your relations with that other blogger.
[this is good]
thanks for the fantastic new release. i especially love the "blog this" button on photos and such in our own blog.

is it possible to have a blog roll? I wanna show my favorite links, on the side but I can't cause its not feature I can use. But can you please make it better then the way it is on livejournal????????

I don't think so, too much spam and not enough community
I agree. Client support (Semagic et al) would be a tremendous improvement-- the Compose GUI is very user-friendly, but has limited capability for embedding HTML code.

I much prefer to give a link some text (which is usually the post title of the link) to make it easier to read in reference to the content. I suppose I should learn HTML better, but it would be nice to have a bit more functionality with an external client. Seems to be possible with Rely, but not Compose.

If this changes, please do leave a comment here: Anyone know if there is...
