10 Years of Blogging

Is it safe to say that back in the mid-to-late 90's that a 'personal homepage' would have been considered a 'blog' by today's standard? Back then I had a lot of the same kinds of things on my 'homepage' that I do on my blog today- granted the formatting was a little different (different 'sections'/pages for different topics) and the graphics looked horrible (640x480 screen resolution anyone?), but essentially the same thing. It's funny how back then, having a 'homepage'/'blog' seemed to declare you as a social reject in the eyes of mainstream society- whereas today you might be considered the same if you don't have one.

I've been blogging for 7 years now. In 2000 I was on Free Open Diary. Then in 2002 I left them for Livejournal, and in 2006 I combined my LJ and Vox to form a rich blogging adventure. I remember the days before RSS feeds. Not to get off topic, but I believe that being able to trade information as easily as RSS feeds have really done a good service to the blogging community. As I celebrate my 5 years with Livejournal, it's got me thinking how proud I am to see how far (true) blogging has come.

just posted one about our own michael sippey, too. :)

I can't believe how long it's been since the first time I started blogging. Back then, the term "blog" didn't even exist. As much as I liked the simplicity back then, I definitely prefer the easy-to-use layouts that sites like Vox provide. I love watching stuff like this evolve...

In 1997, my blog was basically white text on a black background and my friends all thought I was nuts. Things have changed so much!
..and another thing, I keep getting email saying I've been joined to some group or other, but when I check my vox page there's no mention of it! I already have a lively and active myspace page which is considerably easier to operate than this. I read all these blogs saying don't just submit demos, join communities. Well you know what, I've got 2 and a half thousand friends on myspace and I'm networking with lots of them with no trouble daily, I joined Vox because it's now the only way to submit demos to you guys, but noone has got back to me even to say no thanks. I prefer the old way where musicians submit music and don't have to sign up to a whole load of 'networking', I have to tell you everything I've read on vox says 'listen to our demo'. That's it noones sharing the experience of making music, they're just trying to get signed.
